A Reminder About Decisions and Self Care

About the decisions we make all. The. Time.

It’s easy to forget, amidst the chaos of life, those responsibilities that concern taking care of and improving ourselves. With all the other activities receiving our attention, it’s (frighteningly) easy to forget to direct the attention we deserve towards improving ourselves.

As that cliché saying goes: “Be better than the person you were yesterday.

I understand that it’s much easier said than done, of course, but, by breaking down the steps necessary to achieve and embody the version of ourselves we strive for or dream of, it’s possible.

It starts with making the right decisions.

This post is intentionally vague, but it has to do with decisions—particularly decision-making. About having the willpower to follow through with decisions that you know are the right ones, but, for whatever reason, aren’t making them or aren’t following through with them.

How do you know if you’re making the right decision?

Well… I’ll save that for the next post. Today, talking about a decision that you know is the right one with 100% certainty.

I want to share with you (and perhaps emphasize it to myself in writing) something I had read recently, which seems so much like common sense but is surprisingly often forgotten.

Forgive my paraphrasing this, but here’s that simple reminder I’m talking about:

It doesn’t always feel good to make the right decision.

Making the right decision, and following through with it, is rarely the easiest.

Whether it’s ending a relationship that wasn’t working for you, going on a diet, writing an essay for an application, quitting smoking, sometimes, the best decisions you can make are going to be such a pain.

The pain is your sign to stick with it. (Sort of like working out when your muscles burn so badly, but you know they’re getting stronger.) You’re growing.

The right decision doesn’t always feel good, but it doesn’t stop it from being right.

You can do it.

You’re going to feel good fantastic, eventually.

Let’s keep this humble reminder in mind as we decide to do better for ourselves but feel ourselves wanting to give up.
