Summer’s almost here! Is there a more perfectly sounding scenario than a road trip full of exploration, quality family time, and a side of wine?
After strictly abiding by CDC and WHO protocols for about 15 months, my family and I decided to safely venture off on a weekend getaway. The destination? Calistoga, California, about a 2.5-hour scenic drive from Los Angeles, not bad for a bit of wine and cheese adventure, if I may say so myself. Because I learned a decent amount of history (and some fun facts) about wines in the area, why not share this little trip with my readers on the Internet.
My family chose the Meritage Resort & Spa for our mini getaway weekend. The staff gave us a complimentary red blend (Don’t mind if I do!) as soon as we entered our room (thank you so much!). Nature walks up a vineyard attached to the hotel, with a gazebo at the top. There’s also a lovely pool with lounge chairs spaced 6 feet apart available for guests (though I forgot to pack my bikini).
Louis M. Martini
My family and I visited the historic restoration of Louis M. Martini Winery, where we got to discover the landmark restoration of Louis M. Martini Winery, one of the first in the region to open after the repeal of Prohibition.
The ambiance was quiet, nature-filled, serene, magnificent, and the wine was delicious. The staff generously provided us fresh white truffle pizzas to eat, breadsticks to chew in between wine tastings, and finally, the wine itself: rosé, pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc, a red blend and, last but not least, a cabernet sauvignon. The server poured out all of the wines at once, and, although I could not keep straight the ones I enjoyed, they all tasted phenomenal, much better than the wine I have been used to thus far in college and life as a recent graduate (no hate Barefoot, I will always love you).
Castello Di Amorosa
This 13th-century–style winery offers guided tours of the castle & tastings of Italian-inspired wines.
“Wine a little, laugh a lot.”
Okay, I know this is probably unrelated to the above information, and this ramen place is not even near where we stayed above. We paused here randomly for a pit stop, and I am glad we did! This ramen was so delicious it would be wrong to exclude. Located in Oakland, CA, Morofuku Ramen is now my GO-TO and the next stop on your list! Especially if you need to pit stop and are with a fellow ramen lover. A massive shoutout to my brother’s GF for showing us this place.
I hope you enjoyed this post! Keep wearing your mask, and safe travels.
